kussembargo.com | What Dresscode!?
« prev next »

Styles are codes. They are maps of meaning, as Stuart Hall put it. They can be signs of forbidden identity and sources of value as we viscerally understand by reading The Thief's Journal by Jean Genet.
For me there is a lust in identifying styles and even bodies as queer. At the same time I am aware that this is a very precarious and paradoxical undertaking. Within this area of conflict I have explored questions in interviews with fellow players, our visual re/presentations and their histories since 2009. Questions asked were: What can queer kink styles look or be like? Which personal stories do they tell? To which meanings do they refer - also in relation to class/ification and race/ification? Can they be tools in transgressing gender and disrupting heteronormativity?

The material is presented under different titles in different formats - lecture performance, workshop, lecture, debate - presented upon invitations of City University, Hong Kong, Rdeče Zore, Ljubliana, Vereinigung Bildender Künstler*innen Österreich, Vienna and Taxispalais Kunsthalle Tirol, Innsbruck.
